Gaizka Eguzkitza Mestraitua is a substitute professor (bilingual profile) in the Department of Journalism at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Doctor in Journalism and Master of Political Studies from the UPV/EHU.

He has teaching experience in undergraduate subjects related to publishing and the journalistic business (Journalistic Editing and Entrepreneurship in Communication) and other topics (Management of virtual communities).

As a researcher, he has just started his career and has published five articles in quality academic journals, present in impact positions (C1 and C2) in quality indexes (JCR-Social Science Citation Index, SJR-Scopus, FECYT Seal, Dialnet metrics , etc.). Likewise, he has presented several presentations and communications at national and international conferences. These works have been developed within the framework of their participation in the project “Audiovisual platforms and youth: content, business strategies and audience perception” (2019-2022) (RTI2018-095213-B-I00), financed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and framed in challenge 6 of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020, which is titled "Social Sciences and Humanities and Science with and for society."

Aside from research, he has developed a professional career basically linked to written and local media, among which his role as director of the Bilbao Municipal Newspaper and as editor and layout designer in the magazine Aikor!
