Presentation

María del Mar Rodríguez González is a journalist by vocation and training. An associate professor in the Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, she earned her doctorate in 2005 with her thesis "Communication Policies of Public Institutions in the Face of Projects Facing Social Rejection. The Zabalgarbi Case," earning her distinction cum laude. As a professor, she has taught undergraduate subjects related to communication offices (Press Offices) and writing (News Genres and Reporting.

As a professional, she has worked at Spanish National Television (TVE), in the Communications Department of the San Sebastian Film Festival, at Consultores de Comunicación, at the newspaper El País, and for 20 years as part of the Eroski Foundation's News Products Department, producing reports and interviews focused on health, nutrition, the environment, and solidarity. For the last seven years, she has led a multidisciplinary group of journalists, nutritionists, and healthcare professionals, regularly contributing to Consumer magazine, both in its print and online editions. She regularly contributes to Goiena magazine, where she writes a column on Food and Health.

In her research field, she has published more than thirty articles, many of them featured in indexes and impact rankings (JCR, Scopus), as well as book chapters. She has presented more than 40 papers and presentations at national and international conferences. This research work is part of several research projects funded by competitive public calls at national level, such as those of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, regional governments (Basque Government/Eusko Jaurlaritza), and universities (University-Business-Society projects), where she has served as principal investigator. She has also participated in more than 10 relevant research and transfer contracts with public entities (Euskal Irrati Telebista/Basque Public Radio and Television) and the Eroski Foundation.

The results of her research have been reflected in more than 40 media outlets, including print, online, radio, television, and social media, thus fulfilling the goal of bringing academic knowledge closer to society.

She has completed a residency at the Institute of Social Communication, Journalism, and Advertising at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina and at the Faculty of Communications at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

She is part of the Mediaiker Group, recognized in the 2021 call for grants to support the activities of research groups in the Basque university system (IT1686-22).
