About

Sara Loiti Rodríguez is Assistant Professor at the Department of Journalism (UPV EHU). PhD in Social Communication (2023) and beneficiary of a grant from the Basque Government Department of Education (2019-2022) to develop her thesis. Graduated with Excellence and Extraordinary Prize in Audiovisual Communication (2017) and best academic record in the Master's Degree in Social Communication (2018). Member of the Bitartez Consolidated Research Group of the Basque University System.

He has taught undergraduate subjects related to radio production and production, interpretative genres and television information. He has also collaborated in subjects on journalistic design, infographics and visual journalism.

Her main line of research focuses on communication and health, in the study of institutional health communication, and her main challenge is to determine an effective and efficient informative method so that the messages are adapted to society, and thus promote its empowerment through new forms of communication, such as visual thinking and animation. In short, it is about knowing all the possibilities offered by visual communication in social relations and its possible applicability as a tool for empowerment in health issues.

Throughout her academic career she has developed a great interest in visual communication and data visualisation, so she has taken several courses on visual thinking as a problem solving tool (2016) and as an educational tool (2020; 2021); also courses on Big Data, on Social Network analysis (2019) and on data mining with Python Orange datamining (2020). She is currently a member of the Organising Committee of the International Congress on Research and Transfer in Communication (INTRACOM) in which she performs management, organisation and communication tasks as technical secretary of the Congress (2021-acte.). She also works as secretary of the Zer Magazine of the University of the Basque Country, and participates in an I3KD Teaching Innovation Project of the UPV/EHU (i2 22-48 ERNATU-AXOLOTL DESIGN) in the active improvement of the Visual Journalism and Journalistic Design subjects. She collaborates as a researcher in a health project (PI21/01338) funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (FIS) developed by the University of Zaragoza. It is part of the QYourself project (Erasmus+ KA220 ADU) on misinformation and media literacy, led by the principal investigators, Dorleta Apaolaza and María José Cantalapiedra. Since 2022 it has been collaborating with the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific and Social Development and Transfer of the UPV/EHU in the design of various scientific posters and infographics on health to promote the scientific dissemination of various Basque research groups.
