Profile for admission
To access the Doctoral Programme in Sciences of Antiquity, students will be required to have the qualifications envisaged in current regulations. In order to obtain said qualifications, the student must have studied some of the subject matter that comes under any of the fields of Sciences of Antiquity.
As regards other qualifications, the Academic Commission will assess whether the studies that the student has completed are sufficient to be able to enter this Programme, and in which case whether the student's admission is conditional on them completing additional training adapted to the offer available at any given time at the University of Cantabria and at the UPV/EHU.
The student must attach a complete CV to their admission application, and if they wish, they may also include a statement of their reasons for wanting to join the Programme, their expectations or lines of research in which they are interested.
Applicants coming from master's courses within the areas of Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences other than those listed in the "admission profile" section will be required to do 6 ETCS of complementary training on the following UPV/EHU master's courses: - Master in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies: "Greek Poetry and Rhetoric" (3 ETCS) and "Latin Poetry and Rhetoric" (3 ETCS) - Master in Europe and the Atlantic World: Power, Culture and Society: "IT for historians" (5 ETCS) and "Historical Research and Social Sciences" (5 ETCS)
In general, to gain access to the doctoral program it will be necessary to have passed the studies leading to the Master's Degree in the Classical World of the UPV/EHU, the Master's Degrees in Historical and Territorial Heritage or Prehistory and Archaeology, or the Master's Degree titled "From the Mediterranean to the Atlantic: the Construction of Europe between the Ancient and Mediaeval World" of the University of Cantabria, or any other master's degree studied at Spanish or foreign universities whose purpose is the study of any of the fields covered by the denomination Sciences of Ancient Times. In the case of candidates who are in possession of a Spanish or foreign official master's degree qualification different from those indicated above, the Academic Committee will assess whether the studies completed are equivalent to those generally stipulated to gain access to the Doctoral Program and, if appropriate, whether they are required to complete some supplementary training.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
