PhD (2000) in Basque Philology. Editor of Diccionario General Vasco (1987-1996), under the direction of Koldo Mitxelena & Ibon Sarasola. From 1996 on, she is teaching at the department of Linguistics and Basque Studies, in which is named a permanent teacher from 2002. She has taught courses at Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and PhD level, mostly related to her research profile, such as History of Basque, Historical Grammar of Basque and Basque Lexicography.

Named Minister for Culture in the Basque Government, with responsibility for Culture, Heritage, Language Policy, Sport and Young People (2009-1012). She had already been department secretary (2002-2003) and then twice head of department (2004-2005) and (2018-2019).

Together with Joseba A. Lakarra, she is Principal Investigator of the MINECO-funded project Monumenta Linguae Vasconum 5: Periodización y cronología (2017-2020; FFI2016-76032-P), and now of Monumenta Linguae Vasconum 6 (MINECO, PDI2020-118445GB-I00). She works on editing texts, the History of Basque and the History of Basque Lexicography, and more reciently has also ventured into Historical Morphology and Historical Dialectology. She has edited and analyzed classics and other testimonies of almost every dialect from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

She has had 5 books, 22 scientific articles and 20 book chapters as the only author; there have also been 5 books and 4 works as co-author. She has supervised three doctoral theses (Etxagibel 2008,
