Profile for admission
Since the program focuses on the engineering of sustainable materials and processes, it is recommended that candidates have studied subjects related to material science and engineering or the fundamentals of process engineering, in engineering or experimental sciences degrees. The research lines of the programme can help identify the most appropriate background knowledge.
Access to the programme requires the mastery of co-official languages in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country and/or English, being the level B2 in English recommended, although not mandatory. Knowledge of foreign languages is especially valued, as it is suggested that theses obtain the International Mention.
An endorsement signed by a professor of the programme is required, who will act as director of the doctoral thesis project. This endorsement must be signed by both the applicant and the teacher who will supervise the project in question. Only in exceptional cases, and with a reasoned justification, can this requirement be waived, subject to the unanimous approval of the programme committee.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor and at least one director from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme.
When a letter of endorsement is required from Doctoral Programme, director of the candidate will be the person indicated at the endorsement letter. No candidates will be accepted without endorsement letter, when it is required by doctoral programme.
Tutors are responsible for interactions between the doctoral candidate and the Academic Commission. They are also responsible for adapting training and research activities to the principles of the programmes and, where appropriate, the Doctoral School.
For more information, see the procedures and rules.
