Eneko Ortega Mentxaka is a doctor (2017) from the UPV/EHU and the University of Valladolid. He has been a professor at the UPV/EHU since 2009, and is currently Assistant Professor in the Art History and Music department of the Faculty of Arts.

After completing his studies in the History of Art Degree (2004) from the UPV/EHU and obtaining a Diploma of Specialization in Documentation and Management of Historical Heritage (2006) from the University of Deusto, he developed his doctoral thesis entitled «Ad maiorem Dei gloriam. La iconografía jesuítica en las iglesias de la Compañía de la antigua provincia de Loyola (1551-1767)», under the direction of professor José Javier Vélez Chaurri, within the interuniversity doctorate programme «Europe and the Atlantic World: Power, Culture and Society».

He has made several research stays in national and international centres, among which the Facoltà di Storia e Beni Culturali della Chiesa of the Pontificia Università Gregoriana, the Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu (ARSI) or the University of Valladolid.

His priority line of research is the use of post-Tridentine religious image and iconography as a means of mass persuasion and, more specifically, the iconography of the Society of Jesus during the modern era, as evidenced by his numerous publications that have been published with this theme.
