Degree in Medieval History from the UPV-EHU (2001) and PhD in the same University in 2008 ("La dawla de los Banu Qasi", Madrid, CSIC 2010). His field of research is the Early Islamic period and frontier societies, both from the written and archaeological records. He is the author of some thirty contributions in national and international journeys and volumes and has taken part in numerous scientific meetings in Spain and Europe. He has also taken part in several research projects on Islamic societies, particularly frontier societies.

Trained as an archaeologist in Spain and Italy, he worked as a professional archaeologist in 2008-9. He has developed archaeological works in Spain, Italy, Cyprus and Libya and is currently directing archaeological excavations in Valtierra (Navarra). He is the editor of the journey Trabajos de Arqueología Navarra. As for the treatment of written sources, he has made stays in Tunisia (Inst. Burghiba) and the University of Damascus. He is the author of an edition of Arabic texts on the Basque Country (Bilbao, Euskaltzaindia, 2018) and is currently working on the edition of several Arabic manuscripts.

Throughout his career, he has obtained several fellowships (FPU, MINECO Mobility, Juan de la Cierva, Gerda Henkel Foundation), with research stays in Spain, Italy and Germany.

Nowadays his is a Lecturer at the UPV since 2019, he has also taught in Italy.
