Javier Meana is Graduate in Medicine and Surgery (MD,1983) with Outstanding mark and is Doctor in Medicine (PhD,1990) with extraordinary Award. Docent (1992-2001) and Professor of Pharmacology (2001-) with teaching activities in the Degree of Medicine and several postgraduate Programmes at the UPV/EHU. He worked also in the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and in the University of Geneva. He was elected member of the R+D+i Committee on three consecutive periods (2004-2017). Javier Meana served as Vice Dean of Academic Organization and Teaching Innovation (2001-2003) at the Faculty of Medicine. Until now, he has been recognized with seven teaching merit terms (1986-2021) and six research merit terms (1986-2021). Since 2005 he has recognized the A2 level.
Javier Meana exerted as PI of the Neuropsychopharmacology group, a research group ascribed to the CIBER of Mental Health. He is also member of the Biobizkaia Health Research Institute and its Research Committee. He supervised 19 Doctoral Theses and 30 Final Degree Projects or Master's Thesis. He is the author of more than 200 articles indexed in WOS, 61 book chapters and editor of 9 books. He is researcher in 7 registered patents. His h index is 42 (WOS, 2023). Javier Meana has been responsible for 29 competitive research projects, other 19 projects developed with companies and was team member in other 37 competitive projects. So far, 37 pre- and post-doctoral researchers worked under Javier Meana supervision.
