MA by the National University of Ireland and PhD by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). His research is focused on bioethics, with an emphasis on its narrative aspects. He has published in international journals of Philosophy, Ethics, Psychology, Law, and Sociology, by himself and as part of the IAS team. He leads the ETICOP (Ethics in Communities of Practice) research group, recognized by the UPV/EHU since 2018. In 2008 he was awarded with the Grífols Prize in Bioethics. He has supervised 7 PhD dissertations, published 4 books as single author, and edited 2 collections.

He served at the Health Care Ethics Committee in the Donostia University Hospital (2002-2012). At the UPV/EHU he has been a member of the Equality and Basque Boards, the Academic Board in the Master and Doctorate programs in Philosophy, Science, and Values, as well as the Master in Scientific Culture. From 2012 to 2017 he was Deputy Dean at the Philosophy and Education Sciences Faculty; from 2017 onwards, Outreach Director at the Gipuzkoa campus.

His essay “Una casa en Walden” was shortlisted for the Euskadi Prize in Literature in 2018. He is part of the cultural action team at the UPV/EHU, and founding member of both the scenic and performative arts society (unea) and the “Joxe Azurmendi” Chair for Contemporary Thought.
