After completing his Industrial Engineering studies at the Bilbao Higher Technical School of Engineering, in 2002 he obtained a doctor degree.
Since 1994, he has been working at the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea in different academic positions. First at the Higher Technical School of Nautical and Naval Machines and currently at the Bilbao School of Engineering, as a university professor. His academic and research experience is focused on the areas of electrical engineering, power electronics and naval electrical machines, as well as Marine vehicle dynamics and biomedical engineering.
He also has extensive experience in managing R&D projects in these fields.
He has participated in more than 30 projects for different calls: SAIOTEK, ETORGAI, CENIT, UPV / EHU, etc. Among all of them, the leadership in the HIBRIBUQ project stands out, formed by a consortium of 8 companies from the naval sector. In this project, a highly energy efficient hybrid propulsion system was developed for small and medium displacement vessels. He was also part of the research team of the BAIP2020 project, Autonomous Intelligent Multipurpose Fishing Vessel 2020, a consortium of 21 companies and 28 research groups led by Astilleros Murueta
He is the author / co-author of more than 12 scientific articles and more than 30 communications to congresses in national and international forums. He has also participated as an evaluator in different international journals,
