MD (1985); PhD (1994) and Associate Professor (2001) at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Currently, he teach "Human Anatomy" in the Medicine degree and "Neuroscience" in two master studies: "Neurosciences" and "Molecular Biology and Biomedicine". As scientist, he is a member of the "Laboratory of Neurobiology" in the Neuroscience department (UPV/EHU), directed by Prof. Carlos Matute. The group is ascribed to the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience devoted to the translational research of neuronal and glial biology. More specifically, the laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms involved in neuronal and glial cells death following insults which are relevant to neurological diseases including AlzheimerŽs disease, multiple sclerosis and brain ischemia. These activities are relevant to the discovery of new molecular targets that can be exploited for the development of new therapies with drugs. Up to 2018, he is co-author in 24 scientific papers (13 in the first quartile) and gets a13 H-index.
