Presentación de GISEL

The Electric Power Systems Research Group (GISEL) has been working for over a decade on the development of technologies aimed at making the electrical grid more efficient, cleaner, and smarter. Its research focuses on three key areas: integration of renewable energy sources, microgrids, and power system protection. GISEL maintains close collaboration with the local energy industry, participates in research projects at the regional, national, and European levels, and actively contributes to the training of new generations of researchers. We invite you to explore the different sections of our website to learn more about who we are, our research activities, and the projects we are working on.

Launch of the Smart Grids Academy (SGA), a unique learning and professional training ecosystem with GISEL’s participation

First publication date: 10/12/2025

The Smart Grids Academy (SGA) is the result of a collaborative effort between the GAIA ICTA Cluster, various universities, research centers, and leading companies in the sector. This pioneering initiative, framed within the "Bizkaia with the Talent" strategy, aims to provide ongoing training and technological specialization to active professionals throughout Spain in the smart grid energy sector.

The initiative was officially presented on December 2 at the 29th floor of the Iberdrola Tower, in a joint event led by the GAIA Cluster ICTA and the Iberdrola Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, with the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia. It promotes skilling, reskilling, and upskilling around four major challenges faced by the power system. These challenges form the basis of training paths focused on the technological needs of smart grids in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Smart Industry, and Smart Grids.

Gaizka Saldaña and Oier Oñederra, members of the Electrical Power Systems Research Group (GISEL), are involved in the development and review of content for the last of these tracks.
