  • Title: 3DStructure 2022.Bremen
  • Art and Project: Juan Carlos Olabe y Xabier Basogain - JC&X
  • Collaborators: (see list below)
  • Technique: 3D fir wood structure
  • Size: 361 cm x 408 cm x 266 cm
  • Date: September 19, 2022 - June 6, 2023
  • Place: external garden of the EIVG, next to the east side access

The structure 2022.Bremen has been designed around one of the most simple and common structures in geometry, the cube. 2022.Bremen contains two super-cubes, where each super-cube is subdivided into 8 smaller cubes. All of them, super-cubes and cubes, are incomplete, that is, they have fewer than the 12 edges of a complete cube.

The edges of the structure are positioned at a 45 degree angle with respect to the floor, as well as the traditionally vertical walls of buildings.

Finally, the structure has the property of transparency: the viewer can perceive the totality of the its elements from almost all points of view. This is obtained by implementing its edges as a combination parallel lines: magenta, white, or black.

The combination of all these factors, inclination, incomplete cubes, subdivisions, connection of two super-cubes, and structural transparency, provides a dynamic experience to the viewer. As we walk around the structure, we perceive a series of contrasting perspectives. We see structures composed of rhombuses, triangles, diamonds, hexagons, squares or rectangles.

The structure invites the viewer to understand how those multiple dynamic symmetries are created from a single static structure. It invites to reflect on how perceptions are, in general, incomplete and that the meaning of true understanding goes beyond mere visual perception. 2022.Bremen invites a dialog among the eye, the mind, and the structure.

Open STEAM Art

Image
Open space of the EIVG for the creation of the work
  • Open to anyone's participation
  • Open to any open public place of EIVG (corridors, classrooms, windows, stairs,…)
  • Open during execution so that people pass by the work during its execution and see how the collaborators participate; In addition, a dialogue is established between spectators and 'artists' to encourage, to ask questions, to comment, etc...

Collaborative Experience

Image
Collaborative experience in the creation of 3D Strucuture 2022.Bremen
  • Teamwork: several collaborators participate at the same time in carrying out the work, and it becomes necessary and natural to assign roles of direction, execution, monitoring, checking... among all.
  • Time: the time that the work requires allows the participants to share that time commenting on the work, what inspires it, what it contributes, etc…
  • Collaborators: PDI/PAS/Students (ERASMUS):
    • Anne
    • Asun Veiga
    • Celia Sierra
