2.- Description
The Álava Campus Library "Koldo Mitxelena" houses a large-format art installation in its lobby—5.55 meters high by 2.40 meters wide—that unfolds next to the spiral staircase with an evocative image of a forest bathed in light.
The collaboration between the Álava Campus Library and the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Engineering resulted in this work conceived for the library lobby, designed to hang from the large metal cuboid surrounding the spiral staircase. The aim is to evoke a forest that accompanies the bibliographic exhibition "The Green Gaze: Trees and Forests in Literature."
This exhibition is organized into seven sections: 1. Trees and Forests as Archetypal Symbols; 2. The Forest as a Stage of Transformation and Liberation; 3. The Forest as a Space of Refuge and Resistance; 4. Tree and Forest Poetics; 5. The Spiritual Dimension of Trees and Forests; 6. Trees and forests as guardians of collective memory; and 7. Activism and environmental awareness.
The work introduces a double language of representation. When viewed up close, the experience is that of an abstract collection of discrete colors, arranged in a consistent tile pattern. The emphasis is on the experience of chromatic chords, rarely perceived in everyday life. From a distance, however, the experience is one of immersion in the forest, the central theme of the exhibition. In the middle ground, the viewer is invited to bridge the gap between both worlds and recognize their parallel languages.
This work is part of the "ARTE STEAM Irekia" project, which fuses visual arts with science and technology in spaces on the university campus. The result is a sensorial and symbolic experience that transforms a place of passage into a space for contemplation and connection with nature from a contemporary perspective.
