Biography

Oihana Gordobil completed her Degree in Chemical Engineering in 2011 at the Faculty of Engineering of Gipuzkoa of the University of the Basque Country and obtained the PhD in Renewable Materials Engineering from the same university in 2018. In 2020, she joined the Wood Modification group at the InnoRenew CoE research center (Slovenia) as a Research Associate. In 2021, she was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) to carry out the BIO4CARE project at Innorenew CoE, where she also served as Assistant Professor at the University of Primorska (Slovenia). She is currently a Ramón y Cajal researcher in the “Materials+Technologies” Group (GMT) at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

Research

Her research focuses on the sustainable valorization of lignin for the development of bio-based functional additives-ingredients, formulations, and materials. A central objective is to enhance lignin’s performance through chemical and physical modifications. Her research work includes synthesis and functionalization of lignin-based nanomaterials, design of lignin-derived formulations and materials such as emulsions, coatings, resins, and composites, development of biobased wood protection treatments, and application of non-destructive analytical techniques based on spectroscopy combined with Multivariate Data Analysis (MDA) to characterize lignin-derived systems and predict their properties.
