We are an interdisciplinary group of professors from the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao) that since 2001 have bee studying the situation and fundamental issues concerning European Minority Language Media and Journalism. The areas of analysis are three:
 
  1. Mapping the reality of the media organizations.
  2. Understanding the core issues of journalists and journalism.
  3. Assessing factors and strategies of media and journalism development.
 
Minority language communities. In this research project minority language communities with a minimum media system are studied. They are ten:
 
  1. Basque (Euskara)
  2. Catalan
  3. Galician
  4. Corsican
  5. Breton
  6. Frisian
  7. Scottish-Gaelic (Gaidhlig)
  8. Welsh (Cymraeg)
  9. Irish (Gaelige)
  10. Sámi
 
International teamwork. Our team is enriched with the co-operation of scholars from other universities as well as with the assistance of media experts, executives and journalists of the linguistic communities under analysis.
 
 
Publications. As for 2008, results of this multi-annual project have been made public in several ways: Sections in four international books, one article in Journalism Studies, eight papers in international Conferences (IAMCR, AEJMC, ECREA), and two in events of national character.
