The Department of Immunology, Microbiology, and Parasitology is composed of three Departmental Sections, called Departmental Section of the Faculty of Science and Technology (Leioa), Departmental Section of the Faculty of Pharmacy (Vitoria-Gasteiz), and Departmental Section of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (now the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing) (Leioa).

The areas of knowledge that conform this department are Immunology, Microbiology, and Parasitology. 

This department provides teaching in several bachelor's degrees and also has long experience in postgraduate studies. It is currently responsible for the Master in Microbiology and Health and the Doctoral Programme in Immunology, Microbiology, and Parasitology. 

Several research groups are constituted in the department, working on topics related to human infections as well as environmental issues. Additionally, some professors collaborate on research projects led by other departments.There are also research and training partnerships with other Institutes and Universities.
