TRALIMA- ITZULIK addresses the study of translation and cultural transfer within the fields of literature and audiovisual media from a historical and descriptive perspective and by making use of new technologies (Digital Humanities). The research lines of the group are focused on the analysis of the linguistic, cultural and social mechanisms that occur in the translation of different written and audiovisual media across different historical contexts. The historical perspective and the descriptive translation studies methodology applied are the distinguishing features of the group.

The multidisciplinary nature of translation is reflected in the group’s work. Although we approach translation from different perspectives and in relation to different sectors, our research is always underpinned by the goal of gaining a better understanding of linguistic and cultural exchanges, as well as delving deeper into the intercultural nature of the social environment in which we live and identifying power relations among collectivities, languages, and cultures.

In addition, there are elements intrinsic to our activity, as well as cross-cutting characteristics that are present in our work—both in our theoretical and methodological approaches and in our objects of study. On the one hand, a fundamental feature of the cultural and creative industries is their focus on innovation and technology, which enables them to remain competitive. In TRALIMA/ITZULIK we make use of the technologies most relevant to our research (tools for creating and analyzing corpora, data visualization, machine translation, etc.), and the application of these technologies in the translation industry also becomes a focus of exploration. On the other hand, our research also takes a cross-cutting approach to the principles of equity and gender equality. Our focus on accessibility reflects our commitment to various groups that face barriers to accessing cultural products, and the gender perspective has become the focus of some of our work.
