Born in Bilbao in 1955. BsC in Biology, and PhD in Biochemistry (University of Bilbao). Her doctoral thesis and much of her subsequent investigations were developed around the interactions of cell and model membranes with detergents and the role of lipids in the fusion of membranes. Postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Free Hospital, University of London, in the laboratory of Professor Dennis Chapman. She rejoined the University of the Basque Country in 1982 where she later became Lecturer and, since 1992, University Professor. In 1998 she was the first Director of the newly created Biophysics Unit, CSIC Joint Center and University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), where she continues to work at present. In 1999-2000 she was Visiting Professor at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada). Shee has been President of the SBE, Society of Biophysics of Spain (2006-2010), Vice President of the SEBBM, Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2010-2014), and member of the Executive Committee of the IUPAB, International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics (2008-2014). Since March 2015 she is the General Secretary of COSCE, Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain. Author of 190 scientific publications focused on the study of membrane biophysics. Researcher WoK ID: E-5310-2012. In 2017 she was awarded with the Manuel Rico - Bruker Prize from the Biophysical Society of Spain.
