Jesús M. Aizpurua currently holds a full Professorship of Organic Chemistry at the Universidad del Pais Vasco (UPV/EHU) and leads the "Sustainable Catalysis: Methods and Computation" research group (http://www.ehu.eus/en/web/qbbm/home) at the Jose Mari Korta R&D Center in San Sebastian, Spain.

He obtained the BSc (1982) degree from the UPV/EHU and the PhD (1985) under the supervision of Prof. Claudio Palomo, working in the chemistry of beta-lactams and related peptidomimetics. In 1987 he completed a post-doctoral stay at the CNRS, University or Bordeaux (France) investigating the chemistry of nitrogenated organosilanes. Since 1997, Prof Aizpurua manages and independent research activity that has resulted in more than 130 scientific publications (H= 33) and 5 patents. He has also supervised 21 PhD thesis works, including 4 thesis awarded with the excellence label of UPV/EHU. He has directed 20 research projects as project leader, including the coordination of two European projects. Prof Aizpurua has also leaded the peer-reviewed funding (> 750.000 €) from National agencies to acquire novel facilities for the NMR General Research Service (SGIker) of the UPV/EHU.

The current areas of interest of Prof Aizpurua are focused on 1,2,3-triazole chemistry and bioactive peptidomimetics, synthesized by using sustainable methods.

In 2018 he won the Innovation award “M. Laborde-Werlinden” Prize for the Spin-off project "Miramoon Pharma SL".
