Profile for admission
The recommended admission profile to access the Doctoral Programme in Environmental Agrobiology is that of students who prove to have the following personal skills:
- Knowledge of the functioning (metabolism and physiology of plants) of the agricultural system;
- Ability to design field and laboratory experiments for the analysis of the data obtained and for project management.
These skills are associated with the Bachelor’s degree or degree in biology, engineering in the fields of Agronomy and Forestry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and other related degrees and master’s degrees included in these areas.
The languages used shall be the official languages of the Autonomous Communities and English. The required level shall be the equivalent to B2, a good understanding of scientific literature being necessary.
According to the provisions of Article 7 of RD 99/2011, of 28 January, regulating the official teaching of PhDs, the Doctoral Programme may include specific complementary training as may be requiredThe Doctoral Programme does not establish any specific complementary training. Students selected by the Interuniversity Academic Committee shall be deemed to be fully qualified for their training as researchers within the programme, ensuring a satisfactory acquisition of the intended skills.
1. Adequacy of training carried out in the Masters Degree: 40 pts. 2. Academic record of the Bachelor's Degree (or Degree) and Masters Degree: 25 pts. The academic record of the Degree (15 points) and Masters Degree (10 points) will be valued. 3. Complementary training in the scope of Agrobiology: 10 pts. Courses taken in the field of Biology, Biochemistry and Agronomy at universities or research centres shall be valued. Prior experience conducting business practices, collaborations at university research laboratories, etc. will also be valued.4. Additional handling techniques in the field of Agrobiology: 10 pts. Handling and knowledge of instrumental techniques in the field of biochemistry, physiology, ecology and agronomy will be an asset. 5. Scientific publications and communications: 10 pts. Publications made in indexed journals in the field of plant physiology, ecology and agronomy will be an asset. 6. Other merits: 5 pts. Knowledge of languages beyond the required and a command of statistics applications will be valued.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
