Graduated in 2002 (History), got his MAS in 2006 and his PhD in 2014 (Archaeology), all at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). His PhD, entitled “Genealogy of the pre-industrial ceramic record of Alava (14th to 17th centuries)”, received the Extraordinary Prize of Doctorate 2014-2015. He is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Archaeology in the Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology at UPV/EHU.

His main teaching experience has been at the UPV/EHU, but he has also taught at universities of Limerick (Ireland), Padova (Italy), Laval (Canada), Lapland (Finland), Alicante (Spain) and Jaén (Spain). He has been Academic Secretary of the Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology at UPV/EHU, and Council member of the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology. Currently he is commitee member of the “Association Internationale pour l’Étude des Céramiques Médiévales et Modernes en Méditerranée" and the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Landscape and Heritage.

His current research focuses on the Basque fisheries of the Atlantic, on the study of Basque trade in pre-industrial times and castilian colonialism.
