In 1991, he joined IRCOM (Research Institute on Microwave and Optical Communications), France, now XLIM, where he worked on MESFET and HEMT modeling. In February 1994, he received the Ph.D. degree in Electronics from the University of Limoges, France.

From 1994 to 1997, he was with the Communications Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria, Spain, involved in the design of hybrid and monolithic microwave circuits for communication systems. In 1997 and 1998 he worked for IFCA (Physics Institute of Cantabria), Spain, where he was involved in the analysis and design of low noise circuits and receivers for microwave remote sensing.

In 1998 he joined the Electricity and Electronics Department of the University of the Basque Country, where he co-chairs the RF and Microwaves group and participates in research private and public founded research projects in the fields of radio-communications and scientific instrumentation. He participates actively in teaching management tasks, having served as coordinator of the Commission of the Degree in Electronic Engineering and President of the Academic Committee of the Double Degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering. He is currently part of the team that promotes the Erasmus Mundus Master on Innovative Electronics and Photonics.
