Félix M. Goñi (San Sebastián, Spain, 1951) obtained his MD degree in Navarra (1975). He completed his training at the University of London (Royal Free Hospital). He has been Associate Professor (1978-1984) and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (since 1984) at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 1995-1999 he was Director of Scientific Policy of the Department of Education, Universities and Research, The Basque Government. In 1999-2000 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada). From 2002 to 2015 he was Head of the Biophysics Unit, (CSIC-UPV / EHU joint center), where he continues as a researcher. In 2015-16 he was a Severo Ochoa Visiting Scientist at the Center for Genomic Research of Barcelona. His research topic is biophysics of cell membranes.



He was Founder (2006) and President (until 2017) of the Biscay Biophysics Foundation / Biofisika Bizkaia Fundazioa. He has been President of the Society of Biophysics of Spain (1994-1998) and of the Publications Committee of FEBS -Federation of European Biochemical Societies- (2006-2012), and President of the International Relations Committee of the US Biophysical Society (2011- 2016). He is currently the President of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2017-2020). In 2002 he received the Euskadi Prize for Scientific Research and in 2013, the Avanti-EBSA Lipid Award. Member of Jakiunde, the Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters
