Arantza Rico (phD, 2003, University Public of Navarre) is an agricultural engineer (1997, Universitat de Lleida) is a University Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Experimental and Social Sciences Education at UPV/EHU since 2012 and is based at the Faculty of Education and Sport (Vitoria-Gasteiz). She holds three six-year terms of research. Her h-index=16 with 1019 citations (Google Scholar).

Since she joined the Science Education Research filed, her research interests are based on Design Based Research of Teaching and Learning Sequences (TLS-DBR). The subjects of investigation are pre-service Primary Education teachers and the research inquires about the big ideas of science. She is particularly interested on the understanding of key ideas about Physics and Microbiology. She has coordinated a FECYT project about science, gender and vocation studies and she has led an Educational Innovative Project on STEM disciplines and sustainability. She also collaborates in the e-Bug pan european project about microbiology education, infectious disease prevention and safe use of antibiotics. Over the last years she collaborates with Euskal Wikilarien Elkartea within its Education Program to train future teachers in the edition and creation of content in Wikipedia and Txikipedia.

Arantza Rico’s previous research experience was in the field of plant microbiology and molecular plant-microbe interactions, both as a pre-doctoral researcher at the University Public of Navarre (
