Profile for admission
The Doctoral Degree in Economic integration does not the obligatory nature of a certain degree to be admitted in the doctoral degree. Nonetheless, the Degree establishes two entry profiles:
- The first profile is that of a student with a Degree or Master in the area of the economics and business, or with a Degree or Master in allied areas, like political sciences, law, sociology or mathematics, and that have basic knowledge and interest in economics.
- The second entry profile encompasses those students coming from areas not included in the first entry profile. The Academic Commission of the Doctoral Degree will lay down the carrying out of training complements for those students included in the second entry profile.
The students willing to get admission in the Doctoral Degree must have the abilities (to obtain and to process relevant information, to develop innovative research projects, teamwork, critical analysis, etc.) and economic knowledge to carry out a research leading to a doctoral thesis in economics.
The students must have a sufficient level of English language (B1)
The Academic Commission of the Doctoral Degree in Economic Integration will lay down the requirement to make training complements for those candidates that do not have a Degree or Master in Economics and Business or allied areas. The maximum number of credits to take as training complements will be fifteen (15) ECTS credits.The Training Complements will involve taking one or some of the following courses:- Economic integration: theory and international experiences (9 ECTS)- Microeconomics (3 ECTS)- International economic relations (4 ECTS)- Cuantitative techniques I. Statistics (5 ECTS)- Cuantitative techniques I. Games theory (3 ECTS)- Cuantitative techniques II. Econometrics (6 ECTS)- Cuantitative techniques II. Optimization (3 ECTS)- Macroeconomic theory and policy (6 ECTS)- Regional and urban policy (4 ECTS)- Social and labour market policies (4 ECTS)- Natural resources and environmental policy (4 ECTS)- Sectoral and innovation policies (4 ECTS)Training complements must be made in the first year of the doctoral degree.
The Academic Commission of the Doctoral Degree will make a decision about the admission of the students based on the following merits:- Degree academic record (maximum 10 points)- Master academic record (maximum 10 points)- Master in the area of economics and business (maximum 30 points)- Master in allied areas to economics and business (maximum 15 points)- Master in other areas (maximum 10 points)- Holding an official University Degree that is equivalent to level 3 of the Spanish Higher Education Qualification Framework, in accordance with the established procedure in the Royal Decree 967/2014, dated November 21 (maximum 10 points)- Holding a University-specific degree (maximum 10 points)- Other training activities (courses, conferences, seminars) (maximum 10 points)- Professional experience (maximum 15 points)- Teaching experience (maximum 5 points)- Research experience (research scholarships, research projects, publications, conferences) (maximum 15 points)- Stays in national and international centers (maximum 5 points)- Knowledge of English and other languages (maximum 10 points)The minimum score to be accepted in the Doctoral Degree is 40 points.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
