Profile for admission

Students who have completed postgraduate studies in the field of energy efficiency and sustainability in industry, transport, building and town planning and thermal engineering or equivalent shall be deemed to have an eligible profile.

No complementary training is established.
-MERIT 1 (25%): Having technical and/or financial support that facilitates the achievement of the Doctoral Thesis by public/private entities, research groups integrated in the Doctoral Programme, or companies/technology centres with which the student has a working relationship (predoctoral grants, contracts in technology centres).-MERIT 2 (15%): To have a research project developed aligned with the research lines of the PhD programme. It will be positively valued if the subject matter is endorsed by lecturers from the PhD programme.-MERIT 3 (25%): Adequacy of the academic training of the Bachelor's and Master's degree to the ones stipulated in the general requirements.MERIT 4 (10%): Motivation letter in which motivation for this PhD programme, clarity of exposition, originality and ability to work in a team will be assessed.-MERIT 5 (10%): Knowledge of languages in accordance with European parameters. Only languages other than the mother tongue and which are not official languages either in each of the three universities of the PhD programme or in the applicants' countries of origin will be taken into account.MERIT 6 (15%): Other research merits (training courses, other doctorates, publications, congresses).

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director

Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.

Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.  

If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.

Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP.  New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
