Esther Lete studied chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he received his PhD in 1982. After a stay in University College London studying the chemistry and synthetic applications of carbanions, she took up a lectureship in organic chemistry at the University of the Basque Country in 1985 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1997. Together with Prof. Nuria Sotomayor, she leads the research group Organometalics in synthesis.

She has a wide experience in synthetic organic chemistry. Her research interests include organometallic chemistry and asymmetric catalysis. She is now involved in the development of stereo- and enantioselective strategies of C-C bond forming reactions for the synthesis of heterocyclic systems. Especially she is concerned with synthetic methodologies based on transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation, alkenylation, arylation or acylation reactions for the synthesis of potentially active compounds, natural products or drugs.

She teaches different courses on organic chemistry, both for undergraduate and graduate students. She has supervised 23 PhD thesis, as well as Master's projects (>40) and various bachelor's degree final projects.
