Abel de Cózar Ruano (Ronda, 1981) get the PhD degree (European mention) in the UCLM (Universidad de Castilla La Mancha) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. A. Díaz–Ortiz and Dr. P. Prieto. During the realization of the thesis he performed the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds comparing the results obtained when microwave irradiation or classical systems were used as heating source. During this period, he performed short predoctoral stages on Prof. J. Goodman (Cambridge University) and Prof. F. Cossío (UPV/EHU) focused on the use of computational tools for the analysis of reaction mechanisms. After the thesis he performed a postdoctoral stage of 3 years under the supervision of Prof. Cossio focused in the study of the enantioselectivity in peryciclic reactions considering metal and chiral ligands as catalysts. Later on he moved to the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam to analyze the physics–chemical rules underlying chemical processes in the group of Prof. Dr. M. Bickelhaupt. in 2012 he returned to the Basque scientific system with an Ikerbasque fellowship grant in the Faculty of Chemistry. In 2017 he consolidated his independent position as a researcher, being granted with the Ikerbasque Associate position. Is coauthor of more than 80 original manuscripts published in prestigious international journals.

Currently he is interested on:(a) prediction and evaluation of the selectivity in chemical reactions (b) design of heterocyclic compounds with improved properties
