I have a degree (1988) and a PhD (1997) in Biological Sciences from the UPV/EHU where I have been teaching since 1997.

My research activity has been developed in the field of Animal Ecotoxicity, setting up different bioassays, among which are acute and chronic toxicity test in liquid medium with Daphnia magna, bioassays of natural and artificial sediment with D. magna and Tubifex tubifex, soil toxicity test with Enchytraeus coronatus and bioassay in estuarine environment with Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri.

The entry into force of the Water Framework Regulation led to collaborate with the competent authorities for the investigation of the toxicity of contaminated and reference sediments and the incorporation of the data into the existing information network. Subsequently, the study of metal bioaccumulation in T. tubifex was started for the addition of a new line of evidence to the evaluation by comparison with the reference condition.

Subsequently, we study the relationship of the bioaccumulation of metals in invertebrates with the ecological alterations observed in the field for the proposal of Environmental Quality Standards in sediment and biota, and their validation for differents basins.

Finally, since 2019 I have participated with the Bivalve Energy Physiology group of the UPV/EHU.

This work has been developed thanks to the funding of different research projects (CYCIT, MEC, MINECO, GV, UPV/EHU, Botín Foundation), and has resulted in the publication of 26 articles in
