Acquired skills

These are the main competences for which this degree will qualify you:

  • An ability to explain information, ideas, problems and solutions in the field of Public Administration and Taxation to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • An ability to extract basic aspects of economic reality via mathematical models, identifying the relevant factors in their design.
  • An ability to gather and interpret significant data in the field of Public Administration and Taxation with a view to making judgement calls that include reflections on significant social, scientific or ethical issues.
  • An ability to seek out, identify, analyse and synthesise information from different sources with a capability for criticism, self-criticism and self-directed learning, so as to make reasoned judgement calls and make useful decisions even under conditions of uncertainty concerning significant matters of a corporate, social or scientific nature.
  • An ability to work in multidisciplinary groups, developing the skills required for each situation: teamwork, leadership, initiative, creativity and decision-making.
  • An understanding of the basic principles of the tax system, the different types of public-sector revenue, the structure of different sexes; analysing their economic effects and interpreting their contribution to the general state and regional budgets.
  • An understanding of the influence of the Public Sector in economic activity and social welfare at different territorial levels, from local institutions to international bodies.
  • An understanding of the main instruments for public sector intervention and the links between policy recommendations and the debate between positive and normative economics.
  • An understanding of the principles of economic analysis, with a view to helping to allocate resources efficiently in the private and public sectors, at local, national and international levels.
  • Applying the principles of economic analysis to the diagnosis and solving our problems and using analytical instruments in decision-making, thus helping to find optimal answers to questions of efficiency, fairness, administration and management of resources available.
  • Drawing up reports and communicating ideas on any issue of Public-Sector Economics clearly and coherently for specialist and non-specialist audiences, using the language skills required in each case.
  • Evidence of a knowledge and understanding of public administration and taxation backed up by advanced textbooks and based on general secondary education, including knowledge from the cutting edge of studies in the field of public administration and taxation.
  • Handling quantitative techniques in the interpretation and qualification of economic data, and understanding the links between verbal, graphic, mathematical and econometric analyses in the study of economics.
  • Understanding the functions of economic actors and the role of institutions in economic and social activity at different territorial levels (from local institutions to international bodies), with the ability to identify and analyse historical, social and institutional factors that condition economic processes.
  • Using the knowledge and techniques acquired to make decisions in economic, social and political contexts subject to continual changes arising, among other factors, from globalisation, technological innovation and environmental problems.
