Mikel Musatadi began his first collaboration with the IBeA research group through an Ikasiker grant during the 2018/2019 academic year. That same year, he graduated in Chemistry, receiving the honors for excellence and top academic record, as well as the extraordinary degree award.
During the 2019/2020 academic year, he completed the Master’s in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. Subsequently, in January 2021, he obtained a predoctoral contract from the Basque Government to carry out his doctoral thesis, supervised by Dr. Zuloaga and Dr. Olivares, on the evaluation of the human exposome using high-resolution mass spectrometry. In October 2024, he defended his doctoral thesis with a Cum Laude distinction and the international thesis mention, following a four-month research stay at the University of Antwerp, Belgium.
Mikel has published articles and reviews in high-impact indexed journals, authored book chapters, and contributed to national and international conferences with oral presentations and posters. He has also been actively involved in scientific outreach activities. In addition, he was a member of the organizing and scientific committee of the III Young Researchers’ Conference of the Spanish Society of Mass Spectrometry (SEEM) in 2025.
In the teaching field, he has lectured in the Chemistry degree program. He has also been a member of the Talentia program of Bizkaia Talent, aimed at university students with the highest academic records, and participated in the Chemistry degree review committee at UPV/EHU during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 academic years.
Currently, Mikel is undertaking a two-year postdoctoral stay at the University of Antwerp under the supervision of Dr. Covaci, supported by the Basque Government postdoctoral fellowship.
