Greeting from the Management Team
Dear friend,
If you are considering joining the Miguel de Unamuno Residence Hall (UPV/EHU), we, the management team, would like to greet you and try to convey what it means to be part of this community. After all, you are about to make a decision that could shape some of the most important years of your life.
Studying at a university residence hall means living the university experience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residence halls have a long history; the one at the University of the Basque Country has been around for over 30 years and has welcomed thousands of students. A residence hall is a space for both living and studying, as well as a pedagogical and formative environment on many levels. It’s a way of experiencing university life—not only by pursuing academic studies that lead to a profession, but also by developing critical thinking and acquiring skills that enable us to be active participants in our communities and in the world. In short, we prepare ourselves for life—specifically, for a life worth living.
To achieve this, our residence hall offers a range of facilities for studying, resting, exercising, and living comfortably, with all your needs for rest, nutrition, and academic work taken into account. It also includes spaces for social interaction and community life with others who are part of this environment.
We also organize various activities such as excursions, talks, workshops, and initiatives that aim to connect your stay here with the broader community and with the values of social justice, solidarity, and feminism upheld by our university. In other words, learning here means not only acquiring knowledge but also experiencing and developing civic values and competencies that we consider essential.
Participation in the Residence Hall Council or its committees is also key to building a space that feels as close to home as possible. We are committed to continuous improvement and welcome new initiatives. We also maintain and celebrate important social moments in the residence, such as the Christmas and Spring galas, and other events that students greatly appreciate.
Ultimately, we want to convey that the residence hall is a place of deep learning in terms of relationships and coexistence. It is also a space open to communication and the peaceful resolution of any issues that may arise. At the same time, it is a safe space, free from any form of abuse of power, violence, sexism, racism, or any behavior that undermines the dignity of its residents. We have protocols and strategies in place to ensure the residence remains free from all forms of violence.
With all this said, we invite you to consider this opportunity and, why not, choose to spend some of the most special years of your life here—just as hundreds of others have done before you—in a unique space that will become an unforgettable part of your educational and personal journey. For any questions or concerns, our door is always open. We are here for you—now and in the future.
