Graduated (1989) and Doctorated (1996) in Biology in UPV/EHU, University in which he is Senior Lecturer in Cell Biology since 1997. Member of the Group of Stem cell, Development and Cancer where they have two main research lines: importance of the matrix metalloproteases in the migration/invasion processes of the embryonic stem cells and embryonal carcinoma cells, and the role of the nucleo cytoplasmic interfase during apoptosis and differentiation processes. Recently he has incorporated to the Cancer and Translational Medicine Group with the following research line, Study of the stem cells of the sclero-corneal limbus and their niche.
Director of 5 doctoral tesis, he has been recognized by CNEAI 3 reserch periods and he is author of more than 25 scientific articles, congresses and book chapters. His formation included stages at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel in Switzerland and Electron Microscopy raining center of Philips in Eindhoven, Holland.
He is also scientific advisor of the Biomedical Microscopy Facility integrated in the General Services of Research SGIker of the UPV/EHU and he is deputy editor of The International Journal of Developmental Biology (IJDB).
