Group description

The TSR research group is a team of researchers at the Dpt. of Communications of the Bilbao Faculty of Engineering (University of the Basque Country). The group has a 30-year history of research in wireless and wired communication systems. The research activity of the group is developed around the following research areas:

- Wireless Systems in Industrial Communications

- Wireless Systems for Multimedia Delivery

- Data Analytics in Wireless Networks

- Smart Grids

- EM Exposure

In all cases, the common transversal nexus between all the research areas is the deep knowledge of physical layer techniques (and MAC) applied both to the design of system architectures, as well as signal processing algorithms for transmission and reception, techniques information protection, propagation channel analysis, and test and measurement procedures both in the field and in the laboratory.

The group is very active in classical academic activities like Ph.D. dissertations, conference contributions and keynotes, journal paper publications, and public research funding calls. The group has a large list of collaborations with Universities in all continents. Some of the members are Associate Editors of IEEE journals. Additionally, we have intense cooperation with the industry in applied research activities and technology transfer. This facet of our work includes both regional, state, and international collaborations (i.e Canada, South Corea). Additionally, the group has a significant track record of contributions to international standardization bodies and consortia to develop wireless standards (IEC, ETSI, ITU-R, CENELEC, EBU, ATSC, DVB).

Currently, the research group is made up of 23 staff, which include full professors, tenured professors, lecturers, post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates. In addition, several engineers work in the group in the framework of various research and development projects with companies.

In the scope of the proposals of this call, the group offers its structure and knowledge on research methodology, human and technological resources to host invited researchers in the field of industrial communications. Specifically, we are proposing topics in wireless PHY / MACs for secure and reliable systems in Factory Automation and wireless system design in Safety applications.
