José Antonio Cortajarena is a full professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Doctor in Electronic Technology from the University of the Basque Country. After working for 8 years in a company, he has focused his research work from 1998 to the present on the design, simulation and implementation of power control systems. Systems such as DC/DC converters of different topologies and powers up to DC/AC converters for the control of AC systems in their single-phase and three-phase versions. Control and estimation algorithms based on neural networks, Kalman filters or MRAS estimators, among others, have been developed and tested on these power converters. They have been implemented and tested in the platforms designed and built in the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (EIBAR Section).

Among the control algorithms are conventional PI, slide mode controls, Fuzzy logic based controllers or predictive control. These algorithms have also been tested on platforms to control different electrical machines such as the squirrel cage machine, the DFIM machine or double fed induction machine and synchronous machines (PMSM). In the field of energy we work with systems also designed and manufactured in the center in grid connection and quality control, battery charging, control of wind turbines, traction in the electric vehicle, and so on.
