Prof. Ramón J. Barrio, born on 1957 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Graduate in Chemistry (1977) and Ph.D. (1984) in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Valladolid, is Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the UPV/EHU since 1998. He was Vice-Dean of Personnel, Economic issues and Planning of the Faculty of Pharmacy. He serve as director of the Doctoral Program in Forensic Analysis of the UPV/EHU. He also is responsible for the Central Analysis Service (SGIker) of the UPV/EHU since its creation in 2003.
His scientific focus is on the bioanalysis and forensic analysis with special incidence in the areas of metabolomics, mass spectrometry and molecular imprinted polymers. His research curriculum is framed as PI of the METABOLOMIPs research group. His expertise is documented by the number of original publications (> 150), an h index of 33, and the supervision of 14 PhD thesis. He has 6 six-year research periods recognized by CNEAI.
He has been visiting professor at John Fitzgerald Kennedy University (Buenos Aires) and has directed Europe and Latin America Research Networks within the Alfa Program of the EU. He has given invited lectures at the Universities of Puebla (Mexico), Mar del Plata (Argentina), in Fundaçao Ostwaldo Cruz (Brazil) at the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI, Argentina), etc.
