Javier Bilbao Landatxe is Industrial Engineer from the Bilbao School of Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), since 1991. He is currently a Doctor of Industrial Engineering and a professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at that university. He is the Academic Secretary of that department. President of the Labour Health and Safety Committee of the Bizkaia Campus of the UPV/EHU.

He has numerous publications (more than 200 among articles in journals and papers in international conferences) in various areas of knowledge, including the area of Electrical Engineering and the area of Education, e-learning, active methodologies and Computational Thinking. He is the author or co-author of several books and book chapters related to these topics. He has participated in numerous research projects related to these areas, as well as in the area of Sustainability, including European projects such as "Low cost novel wireless interactive electronic platform for modern educational systems" and "Mathematics on-line learning model in engineering education".

He is a member of the organizing team of the Bebras Contest in Spain, a platform for the dissemination and use of Computational Thinking, and a member of the New Technologies for Education research team.
