Visit of Ellen van der Werff
Visit by Professor Ellen van der Werff to the Faculty of Economics and Business
Between April 28 and May 9, Professor Ellen van der Werff from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) visited the Faculty of Economics and Business (Elcano Section, Bilbao) as part of the Erasmus+ program. Ellen is part of the Environmental Psychology team at the University of Groningen and actively collaborates in research with professors Ibon Zamanillo and Néstor Lázaro.
During her stay, she gave a joint workshop for students from the Elcano Section and international students from the USAC consortium. The session focused on barriers and strategies for promoting environmental behavior among consumers, providing an applied perspective from environmental psychology to business studies.
In addition, Ellen had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the ESAU (Empresa Simulada Aplicada a la Universidad) program, an innovative methodology developed by Elcano faculty that seeks to bring learning closer to the real business environment through active and interdisciplinary experiences.
The visit also included an outing with students to the Bilbao Accelerator Tower (BAT) and the technology startup QUBIZ.team. This Bilbao-based company specializes in the development of quantum sensors capable of detecting invisible contaminants in drinking water, such as PFAS compounds, with key applications in public health.
Finally, Professor Van der Werff held meetings with the dean's team of the department and was able to exchange views with some of the faculty, thus strengthening academic ties and opportunities for collaboration between the University of the Basque Country and the University of Groningen.
