Air quality in buildings
Presentation
EnediAIR develops its activity in relation to the ventilation of buildings and indoor air motion, considering fluid dynamics and energetic aspects. Thus, enediAir analyses ventilation systems from the point of view of the quality of indoor air and energy demand associated with the air renewal.
This is based on multizone and computational fluids dynamics (CFD) models and measurements of air flow rates, using tracer gas technique and measurements of the permeability of the envelope.
Using the simulations and the measurements, the objective is to define the ventilation system for each building which achieves the indoor air quality conditions using the as less energy as possible.
Equipment
- Tracer gas system. Using this equipment, it is possible to determine the flow of ventilation of premises with high accuracy. In addition, it is possible to analyze aspects related to the efficiency of the air renewal.
- BlowerDoor system for the measurement of the permeability of the envelope and determine the quality of the construction.
- Omnidirectional anemometers for measuring the air velocity at ventilation inlets and outlets and specific points inside the rooms.
- A hood for measuring air flow rates at ventilation inlets and outlets.
Research activities
The main lines of research of EnediAIR are:
- Analysis of air quality in buildings and the problems associated with poor air quality.
- Measurement of ventilation air flow rates in buildings for the analysis of the performance of the systems.
- Study and development of systems of ventilation which allow complying with the indoor air quality criteria, minimizing the energy and economic costs associated with the ventilation.
- Analysis of air movement within the occupied space by the tracer gas techniques, comfort indexes and CFD simulation tools.
