IWC: Buddy Programme - Visiting Students

Buddy Programme: Information for visiting students

If you have any questions or queries, please contact us at: gasteiz.welcomecentre@ehu.eus

What is the BUDDY programme?

The BUDDY programme, organised by the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Transfer and Internationalisation at the EHU, aims to assist students visiting the EHU through mobility programmes such as Erasmus+ or Latin America and Other Destinations. To this end, it facilitates contact between visiting students and current EHU undergraduate students who volunteer to help them.

It's a great way to settle in and get know the local area, make new friends and hone your language skills!

How can I sign up for the BUDDY programme?

There are several BUDDY programmes at the EHU, since some schools and faculties run their own individual programmes. Check the list and write to the email address provided if you will be studying at one of the schools or faculties that have their own programme.

If your school or faculty is not on the list, sign up for the BUDDY programme using this form.

How will your BUDDY help you?

At the beginning of the semester, we will send you your BUDDY's contact details so you can write to them while you prepare for your trip and ask them any questions you may have.

When you arrive in the Basque Country you will meet them in person so that they can help you get your bearings in the city and on campus.

They may accompany you to our International Welcome Centre office, where we will help you with:

  • Finding accommodation
  • Spanish and Basque language courses for visitors
  • Visa procedures
  • General information about the services available on campus

We can also help with your initial academic procedures:

  • Visiting your international coordinator at your faculty or school
  • Enrolling on courses

How can I assess my BUDDY's work?

EHU students who act as BUDDIES do so voluntarily, but the university rewards their efforts with credits.

Midway through the semester, we will ask you to complete this form assessing your BUDDY’s work. This information is invaluable for improving the programme and calculating the credits your BUDDY will be awarded.
