Presentación de Grupo

Presentation

The central objective of the group's research is the development of new synthetic methodologies that enable the efficient, selective, and as sustainable as possible construction of molecules and molecular fragments of interest. These three concepts—efficiency, selectivity, and sustainability—are fundamental and underpin all of our research lines.

As an added-value, the methodologies developed within the group have proven useful for the synthesis of bioactive molecules with pharmacological potential, which also constitutes one of our short-term strategic objectives, as detailed in this proposal. In addition, we employ computational tools to gain insight into the mechanisms of experimentally studied reactions. Both mechanistic studies and the preparation of compounds of pharmacological interest are considered cross-cutting objectives shared by all of our research activities.

The research group was established in 2015 by Prof. Jesús M. Aizpurua, Prof. Enrique Gómez Bengoa, and Dr. Arkaitz Correa. Since 2016, it has received funding through the Basque Government's Consolidated Research Groups programme. In 2022, Dr. Rosa López Álvarez joined the group. Likewise, Dr. Maialen Sagartzazu, who had previously been a postdoctoral researcher in the group, has held a position as Assistant Professor since 2025.
