Equipment of the month: Ion Chromatograph Dionex ICS 5000+ from Thermo-Fisher Scientific

The Dionex ICS 5000+ ion chromatograph from the Thermo-Fisher Scientific brand, attached to the SGIKer Phytotron and Greenhouse unit, expands its features with the incorporation of an ultraviolet-visible detector to the currently available infrastructure with conductivity and amperometry detection .

Using this new UV-VIS detector it will be possible to determine a wide range of chromophoric (direct detection) or non-chromophoric (derivatization) substances in various matrices.

Some applications in different areas would be the following: Environment (Cr VI, nitrates, nitrites, bromate, iodide ...), quality control, fraud and food safety (nitrate, nitrite in meat and vegetable products; iodide, biogenic amines, melamine in products dairy products ...) and therapeutic applications and human health (contaminants in heparin, transition metals in serum and blood, hemoglobin variants ...).
