BIOMAT group is awarded as type A-research group by the Basque University System. BIOMAT is a multidisciplinary research group, whose members belong to different research areas: Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Applied Physics, Business Management and Applied Mathematics. The main research interests address various aspects of biodegradable materials from the extraction of raw materials to the end of life of products: the valorization of industrial by-products or wastes to obtain raw materials, the modification of biopolymers to improve functional properties, the optimization of processing conditions and methods to manufacture bioplastics, the availability of composting as the end of life of the materials, and the life cycle analysis of products and processes to assess environmental impact of bioplastics.
