Bachelor on Information Sciences and Sociology. He received his doctorate in Sociology in 2003. He is currently Full Professor in the Dept. of Sociology and Social Work of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication (UPV-EHU). It has recognized three sections of research (sexenios) and five sections of teaching (five-year periods).
He has been part of the following Consolidated Research Groups: Center for Studies on Collective Identity (1998-2007) and INNOLAB (2015-). He has been part of the founding team of Sinnergiak Social Innovation, the social innovation agency of the UPV-EHU. He has directed the Official Master's Degree research Models and Areas in Social Sciences Investigation and the Master's Degree in Innovation and Knowledge Management. Currently (2022) he is Director of the Department of Sociologyand Social Work amd Head Researcher of INNOkLab. Laboratory for Cultural Innovation.
His main lines of work and interest are focused on the studies of science, technology and society, sociology of identitiy, creative industries, with special focus on gastronomy, an area in which he has collaborated with many prestigious restaurants as Mugaritz, Akelarre, Nerua, Nublo and more recently with the Basque Culinary Center. He is the Content Director of the International Congress Dialogos de Cocina and member of the Technical Committee of the Basque Culinary World Prize. He has published more than 50 references among books, chapters and articles.
