Professor of Sociology. Director of the Centre for Collective Identity Studies. Principal Investigator of the consolidated research group of the Basque University System "Social change, emerging forms of subjectivity and identity in contemporary societies". I have been a visiting researcher at the universities of Reno (USA, 1990), Cambridge (UK, 1992), San Diego (USA, 1993-1994), the European University Institute of Florence (Italy, 2005) and CRESPPA of the CNRS (France, 2010). Visiting Professor at La Sapienza University in Rome (Italy, 2011 and 2019), CADIS of the CNRS (France, 2013), and Directeur d'Etudes Associé de l'EHESS (Paris, 2015). My subjects of priority interest are sociology of collective identity, social movements and collective action, sociological theory and conflict theories, youth studies, social precarity, political sociology, and sociology of nationalism and language. I participate in the Network of Youth and Society Studies 2.0, and direct the MINECO project Sharing society. The Impacts of Collaborative Collective Action on Contemporary Societies. I have been Vice-President of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and CIS National Prize for Doctoral Thesis in Political Science and Sociology (1990). I am also a member of the International, European and Spanish Sociology Associations. I have directed 12 doctoral theses, as well as more than 20 research projects and contracts with different public and private institutions.
