He is B.Sc.and Ph.D in Economics by the University of the Basque Country, and was Visiting Scholar at the Institut de Sciences Mathématiques et Economiques Appliquées (París, ISMEA) and Visiting Professor at the Instituto de Investigaciones Económicas (UNAM, México). He is Full Professor in Economics since 2001. His teaching activities are Economic Policy and Institutional Economics and Regulation.
His main lines of research are: pension economics and labour market, economic effects of ageing population, and institutional economics. He is Principal Research (PR) to the team research “Institutions, Regulation and Economic Policy. He has supervised 5 Ph.D Thesis and 10 Master Thesis. He has participated as an PR and/or as a researcher in more than 20 projects and/or research contracts with public and private entities (European Commission, Basque Government, MINECO, Ministry of Labor and Social Security). He has published more than 90 works among books, articles and book chapters, both in national and international journals and publishers
