Gorka Elordieta Alcibar received his PhD degree in Linguistics from the University of Southern California (1997), and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a professor of Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics and Basque Studies at the University of the Basque Country, where he teaches Linguistics I-II at the undergraduate level, and Principles of Phonetics and Phonology and Advanced Course in Phonology at the graduate level. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Friburg (Germany), the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice (Bangor, UK), the Center for Basque Studies (University of Nevada, Reno, USA) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (USA). His area of specialization is phonology, more concretely prosody, intonation and the syntax-phonology interface. He has been the principal investigator of five research grants in linguistics and a member in ten other projects. He has edited two books published by Springer and De Gruyter, and his articles have appeared in journals such as Phonology, Language and Speech, Journal of the International Phonetic Association or The Linguistic Review, and in volumes of Oxford University Press, Mouton de Gruyter and John Benjamins, among other publishers. Since 2019 he is the Principal Investigator of the Research Group on Theoretical Linguistics of the University of the Basque Country, classified as an A group by the Basque Government since 2007.
