Leonardo Bich is a ‘Ramon y Cajal’ Researcher at the IAS-Research Centre for Life, Mind, and Society of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 2004 he graduated in Philosophy from the University of Pavia, Italy. In 2008 he obtained a PhD in Anthropology and Epistemology of Complex Systems from the University of Bergamo, Italy. He was postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bergamo (2009-2011), Juan de la Cierva fellow and postdoctoral fellow at the UPV/EHU (2011-2015). He was research fellow and Lecturer in History and Philosophy of Science at the Biology of Cognition Lab of the Universidad de Chile (2015-2016) and visiting fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science of the University of Pittsburgh (2016). He also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the CNRS & University of Bordeaux (2016-2018). His research is focused on theoretical and epistemological issues related to biological organisation and autonomy, and on their implications for investigations in the fields of origins of life, cognitive science, synthetic and systems biology, and theoretical biology.
